Ethyl Acetate is the organic compound with the formula C4H8O2. This colorless liquid has a characteristic sweet smell. Ethyl acetate is used primarily as a solvent and diluent. It is manufactured on a large scale for use as a solvent.  In the laboratory, mixtures containing ethyl acetate are commonly used in column chromatography and extractions. It is commonly used to clean circuit boards and in some nail varnish removers.  Coffee beans and tea leaves are decaffeinated with this solvent. It is also used in paints as an activator or hardener.

Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) also known as Butanone , is an organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CH2CH3. It is colorless liquid has a sharp, sweet odor.

Methyl isobutyl ketone is a stable, colorless liquid having pleasant odor with the formula (CH3)2CHCH2C(O)CH3. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents. It is useful for liquid-liquid extraction also extraction of gold, silver and other precious metals from cyanide solutions.

Methyl isobutyl ketone is also used as a denaturing agent for denatured alcohol. It is both a medium-boiling and a medium-evaporating solvent. This is used as a solvent for gums, resins and varnishes.
