Copper Cyanide is a green powder. Insoluble in water. Toxic by skin absorption, through open wounds, by ingestion, and by inhalation of hydrogen cyanide that arises from slight decomposition. Produces toxic oxides of nitrogen in fires.

USES

  • Electroplating: Copper cyanide is used in electroplating copper on iron, as well as other base materials like aluminum, zinc, and nickel alloys. 
  • Catalyst: Copper cyanide is used as a catalyst in polymerizations. 
  • Reagent: Copper cyanide is used as a reagent in the preparation of nitriles. 
  • Insecticide, fungicide, and biocide: Copper cyanide can be used as an insecticide, fungicide, and biocide in marine paints.
